This is not a script issue, it is a network issue. You will have to setup your network to handle outside connections. You didn't give any information about your network, so I will give basic steps, which may different if you have public static ip address.
IP address that begin with 192 or 10 are private ip address. Your modem will have a public ip address, unless the ip address is static, which cost more money will change occasionally. You will have to setup port forwarding on your router to FMS. In your router software there will be a option port forwarding, select this option, click add new, then forward port 5003 to the FMS ip address, then save. You can go to a website such www.ipchicken.com to get your public ip address. This ip address will be used to access FMS from an outside network. Note If this ip address is not static it will change occasionally, so you will have to go to website again to retrieve the new public ip address. There are a few website that will report your public ip address. Here is a link about other ports that may have to be setup. http://help.filemaker.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/6427/~/filemaker-server-and-filemaker-server-advanced-port-numbers
Thanks Stacy, I am all over the router. I have opened the ports above for the server machine with the IP address beginning with "10". When I did the ipchicken lookup on the server machine it gives me a "173" number. Should I also forward ports 80,443, 5003 to that?
Obviously I do not know what I'm doing on the Router, there's even another thing "Allow IPV6 Access from Outside" that I do not understand. I disabled the rue "Disable all IPv6 access rules" in hopes that it would allow access.
JUST TESTED webdirect offsite via a friend of mine - it is Not working. I thought it was……
So I need serious help on the Router/network stuff. Do not feel comfortable opening all kinds of things.
I post on here incase another user runs across this post with the same issue.
As stated in the email you will setup port forwarding to port 80,443,5003 to the ip address of your FMS. In FMGo you will select host, then add host, and then enter your public ip address. To access from the internet with web direct you would use url https://192.168.1.101/fmi/webd but with your public ip address in place of the 192. address.
The ports will have to be open on your firewall.
None of these work. I cannot set any ports in the router to the 173 or 192 IP addresses I get " Server IP isn't in LAN IP Subnet" and it will not save via Apply.
These ports ARE open on the router using the "10" IP address. And if I use Network Utility - Scan ports - all ports are open on the host machine.
I get errors using the FMDirect protocol (https) above for the 192 or 173 IP addresses on my iPhone or on my local iMac.
Should I do anything in the Allow public access to LAN side IPv6 Hosts??
The IPv6 should not effect anything.
You have a range setup of 5002-5004. I would just setup one Rule for each port 5003,80,443. The starting port would be 5003 and the ending port would be 5003 (Starting 80 Ending 80, Starting 443 Ending 443). The more ports you have open, the bigger the security risk you are taking, so I recommend only using the needed ports. The ip address listed, that you have blank out, should be the ip address of your FMS. I understand from an earlier post that the ip address beings with 10.
I don't need to brand or model of your router, I see that it is from Comcast for the screen shot above. Just verify that you are using the correct ip address, which will be your FMS ip address.
You will not see the 173 ip address from the port forwarding screen it is the ip address assigned to the Gateway / router. Again use the 173 address from FMGo to access FMS.
