Import from csv file in Filemaker Go

      Post

Is it at all possible to import records from a csv file using the import records script step in Filemaker Go?

I'm working on a bank records app for Filemaker Go. I can download a bank records file using Safari, and can open it in Numbers. But how can I select a folder in Filemaker Go?

               giametti:

               Thank you for your post.

Importing from a text file is currently not supported in FileMaker Go.  FileMaker Go can only import from another FileMaker Pro file.  See page 10 of the FileMaker Go Development Guide for more information:

          https://fmhelp.filemaker.com/docs/13/en/fmgo13_development.pdf

Let me know if you need additional clarification.

Thanks for that. It's too bad.

But it looks like FMG can import from another Filemaker file. Can that file be on the iPad, or does it have to be on a machine that can run FMP?

                   giametti:

In the same document above, on page 8, start with the section "Importing to and from a transferred file".  See the examples on page 9.

                     Hi,

It is only one way you can import a CSV file to Filemaker Go and that is to use Web Viewer.

Place the CSV document in FileMaker Go so you can see it in Files on iPad/iPhone.

                     ex file: activities.csv

In Web Viewer (Object name: WEBB) write: Get( DocumentsPath ) & "activities.csv".

Now you can se the CSV file like a spreadsheet in the Web Viewer.

To import the information you have to write a script. Use GetLayoutObjectAttribute ( "WEBB" ; "Content" ).

Richard, when you use GetLayoutObjectAttribute on an iPad if grabs a lot of html along with the data.  Have you found an easy way to parse out the html?  I also found this function can cause problems if you have any data that looks like it might be a phone number.
