    OnSwipe script-trigger

      OnSwipe script-trigger

      Post

I'm really happy that FM Go 13 has swipe gestures. Unfortunately, my client is now expecting the feature to work on all layouts, and I can't find a way to get it to work with the grid-view work-around, found here: <http://fmlayoutmode.com/wp/?p=1695>.

Using the above tutorial as an example, would anyone be able to devise a way to run the "Change Grid" script when the user swipes? Currently, in this customized GridView layout, swiping merely bumps the first thumbnail to accommodate the next record. Ideally, swiping should replace the current thumbnails with the next 15 records.

I can see there is no "OnSwipe" script trigger, but I was hoping someone else could provide a work-around.

(Would love it if FileMaker would work on creating a native grid-view in the future.)

               Thank you for your post.

In FileMaker Pro 13, Slide Controls were introduced.  A Slide Control is similar to a Tab Control, but it allows the user to swipe between different panels.  In your case, you could create multiple slide panels where each panel displays a different set of 15 records.

For more information about Slide Controls, see:

Let me know if you need additional clarification.

I'm not sure if this would work for our purposes. We currently have over 600 records, and it doesn't appear--unless i'm missing something--that Slide Control is dynamic. (My lord, if it was this would be absolutely incredible!) We would need to create 40 different slide panels and would have to add new panels as more records are created. At least the way it is now our single layout is automatically populated, and search results display as well.

Unless i'm unclear about how Slide Control really works (I still have FM12, so I'm only understanding what I read) then I think we need to devise another approach to resolve this problem.

                   Ryan Buckley:

Slide Control is not dynamic.  Each panel would have to be created.

Since you have FileMaker Pro 12, Slide Control would not be an option.  You can consider creating another table that links to the other records, where the first record relates to the first 15 records in the original table.  That way, when you swipe, you move to the next set of 15 records in the original table.

It might also be able to set up a list view of rows of data from your records and then you could swipe the screen vertically to move through the data.

I've been playing around with the Slider in FM GO. I've come up with a control that allows users to use a horizontal swipe to move through an completely open ended set of thumbnail images even though the slider only has 3 panels. The method should be adaptable to to a number of situations where you want to use a swipe gesture as a trigger:
