The runtime solution files (.USR) created by FMP advanced can be opened by FileMaker Go on iPhone and iPad and run the same as FMP solution files (.fp7 or .fmp12). They do not run as self-standing apps with their own icons under iOS.
The free Filemaker Go 12 can be considered a run time app... :)
The Filemaker file that works with the runtime app is just a Filemaker File that has the bound in code id to work with the USR file and so works with Pro or Go.
ok, thx for the replies. I have 2 other questions tho:
Is there a way to protect this .USR files, f.e. binding them with an internal IPAD id or something ?
Would it also be possible to make an FM app time limited, f.e. user would have to enter a code for yearly renewal f.e. ?
1. Yes. Depending on your FMP version you can get unique hardware numbers from either the Network Interface Controller Cards in versions 9 - 11 or, if I recall correctly, serial number in version 12.
2. Yes. You can script a date related verification that executes on startup but this can be defeated by ambitious users.
thx Jade !
now i understand why Apple reported these great earnings yesterday.
Get(persistentid) in 12 returns the unique computer id. Get(systemNIC) returns on my computers two NICs in one field and may return more on some computers so I use the get list value functiions to determine these.
Startup scripts can be interrupted on Macs, Windows and IOS so I insert a perform script in various scripts to regrab the login information which is to create a new record in a table that has calculated fields holding all of this data. I have a perform script for verification that is also performed as part of other scripts so that verification occurs dozens of times for each browser. This is hard to defeat.
To prevent users from acquiring other accounts and using them to do whatever, tying the account name to the computer id is a valuable technqiue. This keeps the new hire in the back corner cubicle from wandering through all kinds of sensitive data. Or the person who has acquire the iPad and is not an authorized employee from using the sensitive files since you can mark that iPad as not permitted access plus change the account and password.
Keep in mind that a NIC while supposedly unique can be swapped out in a repair and it appears that the second NIC number on IOS devices without a cellular NIC all return 02 000.... for the second number.
I have been looking all over for a application that will convert my FM solution into a iphone/Ipad app so I can put my creations in the AppStore, I hope they add this feature real soon.
It's great that FMGo 12 is free now but the exposure you can get from the appstore far out ways putting your creation on your own website trying the sell it.
thx for the replies !
Lawfour, RunRev.com may or may not be something of interest. It is the old HyperCard on steroids. I think i saw a package for converting Filemaker files but I'd approach it cautiously. Keep in mind people like developing in Filemaker because it used to be easy.
