Test on Device for Google Maps or Apple Maps

      Post

I have a solution that works really well to open a google map on an iOS device (using the native app) and plot directions from the current GPS location to a specified address in Filemaker.

It got me thinking after reading this article: http://bgr.com/2013/11/11/apple-maps-ios-market-share/ That perhaps it would be wise to test to see if there is, in fact, google maps on the device, and if not, default to Apple Maps.

Is there a way to test for the presence of an app using Filemaker GO? anyone have any thoughts on a workaround for the problem?

               Thank you for your post.

At this time, FileMaker Go cannot detect if an application exists on an iOS device.  I recommend that you enter this as a product suggestion into our Feature Requests web form at:

          http://www.filemaker.com/company/contact/feature_request.html

The entries into this web form populate a database hosted by our Development and Product Management teams, where each entry is discussed and considered for a future release.  Although I could copy your post and paste it into the web form, there are a couple of questions asked that only you can answer.
