Our free iPhone & Android app pic2shop implements a custom URL scheme that lets other apps use it as an external barcode scanner.
I ran across a blog post that explains how to interface it easily with FileMaker GO: http://www.skeletonkey.com/blog/filemaker_go_barcode_scanning_with_pic2shop
It might be what you are looking for.

Thank you for your post.
FileMaker Go only works on iOS devices; not Android.
On a side note, barcode scanning is now built into FileMaker Go 13, so a third-party scanner is not necessary.
Thank you very much!
Apple's iPhone features a built-in digital camera on the back of the device, which can be accessed and utilized by a host of different applications. By installing a barcode reading application, you can take a photo of a book or product's bar code and use the barcode reading app to decipher the information, or to perform an online search based on the bar code's data.
With the current version of FM GO, this is no longer necessary. You can use Insert From Device to get the camera (either front or back) to capture the barcode image and insert the text equivalent into a text field in your FM GO file.
