upload file to ipad
How do I upload a file from my macbook to my ipad??
Easiest for me is to save the file to dropbox. Then on the ipad, open dropbox, then click the open with button, pick FM Go. It's a one way street, you can save it back to dropbox, but you can email it to yourself (I put this on a script trigger for the last window closed)
Keep in mind this isn't synching the file. For that it's recommended to use a server, or a plug in.
You can also do it thru iTunes
OK, How do I open the drop box on the iPad (can you tell I'm new at this?)
Go to Dropbox and sign up for a free account, then go to the apple store and download the free Dropbox app.
If your MacBook and iPad aren't too old and your OSs are up-to-date, AirDrop is the simplest way to move the file. You don't have to sign up for a service, you don't have to install any apps, and you don't even have to use any apps other than FileMaker.
I haven't had much luck with AirDrop. I wouldn't call my computer and iPad old (they are not brand new either), I have a iPad 3 and i5 MacBook Pro, both with the most update OS.
I'm more of a windows users, so I run windows on my mac (parallels), and I have PCs at my offices, so it is easier for me to use Dropbox to share files with all my computers and devices.
Either way beats using iTunes.
I have discovered that iTunes works nicely. I'm using FMPA 13 and FM Go 13. Just need to 'authorize' the host computer and ipad.
Yeah i-tunes just unfortunately adds several unnecessary steps, inefficient/annoying if you need to do it often, so much slower than just opening in windows explorer...
