I get this same problem with 10.5.6 on a Mac Pro. I have restarted the computer to solve the problem but it doesn't seem right. Could it be an issue with 10.5.6? Is that a supported OS? All filemaker docs always refer to 10.5.4.
OK, I just formated my hard drive and reinstalled everything. Instead of updating all the way to 10.5.6 I just left it at 10.5.4 and filemaker server 10 admin console started just fine. I know this isn't an exhaustive test but to me it looks like there may be a compatibility issue with 10.5.6.
Can anyone else back me up on this experience?
Thank you for your posts.
Since this issue is happening during deployment, I wonder if it is related to the new update of Java. Be sure you are running Java 6 update 7. From what I understand, a Java release 3 was introduced in February, and that MAY be causing the problem. Other users have reported similar problems, and this seems to be the common denominator. This is purely speculation at this time, so please don't interpret this as the solution.
Can you confirm the version of Java being used?
I'd agree with the last poster that you should be careful of using the very latest Java update. My own version of FMS stopped working a week or so ago - after I had upgraded Java to version 6 version 11 (I think). It seems that FMS is not yet supporting these latest updates - and by uninstalling Java and going back a few versions (6.7 appears to be a cut off point) things soon returned to normal. If you take the whole thing out - you should still be able to find a decent earlier Java programme by going along to the Sun Microsystems site and checking out their archives (don't go with the suggested latest download which is now up to version 13 - and will cause problems). Check things out here:
Hope that helps
On my filemaker server the java update last applied says:
Java For Mac OS X 10.5 Update 2" (1.0)
I am having the same problem.
I followed the link provided (http://java.sun.com/products/archive/) and had no luck finding anything that indicated it was intended for Mac OS X.
I hate to sound dense, but could someone post a few steps on getting Java downgraded to something that Filemaker Server 10 will actually work with?
