can you run both filemaker pro 5 and filemaker pro 9 on the same machine?
I'm using windows sorry I didn't specify that eariler. We are migrating from FMPro 5.5 clients to FMPro 9 and I'm wondering if we can have both installed so we same time on the migrate.
I have'nt noticed any issues having both clients installed, i just don't run them at the same time.
If anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated. Thanks!
That's excellent news! Do you know if the same can be done with FMServer 5.5 and FMServer 9 Advanced. I just want to have them both installed so i can migrate with no downtime, i do not want to run them side-by-side at the same time, is this OK to do?
Thanks! Any reply is much appreciated!
I tried running 8.5 and 9 adv. on windows at the same time, but didn't launch the 2nd one. It just brought focus to the 1st one again. Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks for the replies, guys. apparently it works on a Mac but not on Windows. I tried fooling it but changing the.exe file name but apparently it's a little more clever than that. Oh well, back to the drawing board.
May I ask what task you are trying to run that requires you to run both of these versions together?
Sure, the client uses Outlook for e-mail and has a fairly strong integration between Outlook and FileMaker, but the only thorn in the butt is that new e-mails coming in don't get loaded into FileMaker in real time. So, one possible solution is to run a FileMaker background job that just keeps looping and checking for new e-mails every X. minutes. If FileMaker could run scripts in the background then we wouldn't need to have 2 copies of FileMaker running on the same machine (the second one doing nothing but loading e-mails).
