      Enabling ODBC on FileMaker 10 troubles...

      Your post

      Using FileMaker Server 10 on Windows Server 2003. I'd like to use ODBC to access FileMaker. I load up the Admin Console (version 10.0.2.206) and enable ODBC. After enabling, I cannot connect to port 2399. After looking at Windows Event Viewer, I see:

      The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( FMSocket_SL55 ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: FMSocket_SL55@localhost,ErrorCode=430,ErrorMessage=Failed to open event trace file because the file version is not recognised..

      Searching around, I see people recommend renaming FMSocket_SL5.trc. It seems that this would work only if using version 9. Since this is 10, I don't have that file. Can anyone help?

          Looking in C:\Program Files\FileMaker\FileMaker Server\Database Server\Extensions\xDBC Support\cfg, I see swandm.ini which has:

          [Service_1]
          Type=2
          ServiceHost=localhost
          ServiceType=1
          ServiceIdentification=SL5_Socket
          ServiceDescription=[SequeLink 5.5] FileMaker Socket service
          ServiceDebugLogPath=C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\FileMaker\XDBC\logging
          ServiceDebugLogLevel=0
          ServiceEventTraceSize=1000000
          ServiceAuthMethods=1
          ServiceAuthMethods0=Anonymous
          ServiceMinThreads=8
          ServiceMaxThreads=64
          ServiceConnectionModel=Thread/Connection
          ServiceExecPath=C:\Program Files\FileMaker\FileMaker Server\Database Server\Extensions\xDBC Support\bin\swstrtr.exe
          ServiceEvQShmMonitorSize=32000
          ServiceMessageFile=C:\Program Files\FileMaker\FileMaker Server\Database Server\Extensions\xDBC Support\bin\swsocmsg.dll
          ServiceEventTraceLocation=C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\FileMaker\XDBC\logging
          ServiceUser=1
          ServiceUser0=everyone
          ServiceExecPath2=C:\Program Files\FileMaker\FileMaker Server\Database Server\Extensions\xDBC Support\bin\ddfmsoc.exe
          ServiceName=FMSocket_SL55
          ServiceConnectInfo=tcp://localhost.2399
          ServiceCodePage=Database
          ServiceAuthorizedClient=0
          ServiceAuthorizedClient0=127.0.0.1
          ;

          Note the ServiceName (FMSocket_SL55). The file also references C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\FileMaker\XDBC\logging but C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\AppData does not exist. It also references C:\Program Files\FileMaker\FileMaker Server\Database Server\Extensions\xDBC Support\bin\swstrtr.exe but swstrtr.exe does not exist (it existed in version 9). I still don't know what's going on...

            I figured out how I can start the service manually:

            C:\Program Files\FileMaker\FileMaker Server\Database Server\Extensions\xDBC Support\bin\ddfmsoc.exe -servicename FMSocket_SL55 -datamodel "C:\Program Files\FileMaker\FileMaker Server\Database Server\Extensions\xDBC Support\cfg\swandm.ini"

            Why in the world can't FileMaker start it?
