can someone at least tell me how to turn off the server with terminal? and then to turn it back on?
Apologies Mike, but this isn't one for which I have any personal experience. The Filemaker Techs available to help out here have been few and far between for the last two months. It's my understanding that they are training up some additional staff to help.
In the mean time, I've sent one of the folks there a private message asking them to either take a look or pass it on to someone who can answer the question.
Thank you for your post.
FileMaker Server 9 cannot run the Admin Console with a version of Java beyond Version 6 Update 7. You will either need to roll back your system or update FileMaker Server.
Since Admin Console is non-operational on your system (at the moment), you have to copy a database manually to the default database folder (where your other database files are located) and then restart the server, which then restarts FileMaker Server.
Why restart the server? You can use:
fmsadmin open <databasename>
to open a newly added database to the /Databases/ directory.
To shutdown the server, use:
you may want to use:
fmsadmin close all
To get a list of all commands:
fmsadmin help commands
Howdy to answer your question about turning the server off apparently there is an update from filemaker.. that will allows me to use the console. When I go to apply the update it asks me to stop sharing. So I would need the server turned off to apply that update but currently tsgal has answered all my questions and I thank you all for the great advice/help I have received.
