Thank you for your post.
A customer called into Technical Support recently with a very similar problem (connection closed 51). Looking over the case notes, there was no resolution, which I know doesn't help you. Somehow, FileMaker is losing the connection, so I'll need some additional information.
Do any of the users have anything in common? What about the network topography? Do these users share cables/network hardware/location in building, etc.?
Make sure that all network hardware has up-to-date firmware.
When you mention "It seems to occur when the FMP client is idle for a while." Can you be a little more specific regarding "a while"? 5 minutes? 10 minutes? 30 minutes?
Any other information you can provide may be helpful.
Need more information.
- Are you using Windows Server 2003 SMB?
- How much RAM?
- The processor type and speed?
- Are you running any other significant services or applications on this server?
- Are you leaving the FileMaker Admin running constantly?
This happens much more often than it should. In our case, it more often than not happens when there is a lot of simultaneous FM use across our 40-70 FM users.
TSGal, can you tell us the difference between these two error codes?
Client no longer responding; connection closed. (51)
Client no longer responding; connection closed. (10)
Check the power settings to make sure the computers are not set to go to sleep mode after a specific amount of time. Sleep mode will kill the connection.
No, sleep mode is not at all an issue here. First, sleep mode is turned off on these machines. Second, these machines are being ACTIVELY used at the time.
Perhaps my knowing what errors 10 and 51 mean will help me (and all of us) narrow down the possibilities.
The error message is listed in these two articles:
But the error numbers (10 and 51) are not explained anywhere.
I am having the exact same issue. Has there been any information that could be helpful available to help resolve this issue?
We are getting this error when FM 11 / iMac users print to a networked Konica copier even though the job prints. The error does not occur when printing to a networked HP printer.
We are also facing the same "connection lost to client issue". This is with Filemaker Server 6 and Filemaker Client 6.4 with only 10 clients connected at any one time. This has been occuring only as recent as 2 days ago. Any diagnosis yet as to the cause?
In File -> Manage -> Security -> Privilege Sets -> Other Privileges, there is the option to "Disconnect user from FileMaker Server when idle".
TSGal, would this explain this error? I have a user reporting this same issue with FileMaker Pro & Server 12...
