Some additional information. Employees still using FMP 13 CAN access the database through FMS 14 just fine. It's just not showing up on the fresh install of FMP 14 on my workstation.
FIXED! - I unchecked the "List only the databases each user is authorized to access" setting the FMS 14 and the databases now show in the Hosts tab.
This really doesn't make sense to me, so maybe someone can explain. If I'm authorized to access, should't the databases show when that setting is checked? Apparently FMS thinks I'm not authorized since it does not show them. But when I uncheck the box, they show up and I can open without a problem? So doesn't that mean I'm authorized to access?
During this troubleshoot, I created a test DB on my workstation. Uploaded it to the server, with success. But it wasn't showing up either. Until I unchecked the setting.
Guess it really doesn't matter ... it works. Just doesn't make sense.
The launch center is not as refined as it should be. The favorites star was a troublesome thing to figure out as well.
I can confirm your findings. We use the "List only the databases…authorized" feature and would rather not forego that option.
I notice that the "Manage Favorites" procedure works as expected; authorized databases appear according to the current user's domain credentials.
Jonathan Coulter, are you on a Windows domain as well? Perhaps that is a factor.
The new launch center seems to be crap.
With FMS 14 on Windows Server and "List only databases...authorized" feature
- all FM13 Windows clients work as normal.
- all FM14 Windows clients don't show any database (but when going through "Manage Favourites" and selecting the host -- then all are visible there).
When disabling "List only databases...authorized" feature
- most FM 14 Windows clients show all databases.
- but some FM14 clients still only show empty launch centers. So some FM14 clients are completely unusable.
Launch Center of FM14 Mac seems to work - but I did only one Mac install for comparison.
Now I have to stay with FM13 Clients till the bug with FM14 Windows version is fixed.
What I don't understand: Don't they do any testing before release? I installed just a few clients for testing and all showed me only empty servers. That's quite hard to overlook.
Still not fixed with 14.02 client version.
So I guess I can probably switch my company to FM 14 about the time when FM 15 comes out.
That's becoming really rediculous.
Thank you for your replies.
Testing and Development is currently aware of this issue. I am forwarding this post for review. When I receive any feedback, I will let you know.
I have to confirm some of the issues but at least one more.
If the setting is on the the server to show the client only dbs she is authorised to see, then the authentication dialog pops up as soon as I click on the server. No field will ever been shown though.
Doubleclicking then on the server entry in Launch Center again asks also wether to show all field or only select; here user sees the files she is authorised to see, but cannot open.
Using the network file path entry (from the button in the lower right corner of the Hosts tab), the path to the server is preset, and when a filename is added, it can then be opened. Very odd!

This issue appears to have been addressed in FileMaker Pro 14.0.4.
