Hi Tom,Thanks for your interest. Our servers are centrally hosted on a virtual server. The administrators like to be conservative as to the space used -- they'd have very large drives hosting many servers. I intend to split the data off to a different drive (on the virtual server) anyway, hence my other question about the proportion of the 80GB used for program + system files. Our current highly-conservative configurations are one FMSA9 server using 20GB total and one FMS8 server using 30GB total. Several times the amount of free space left has been crippling, so I'm looking to expand somewhat. However, given that otherwise they run fine, it is interesting that FMI recommends 80GB.-- Peter
our virtuals are limited by CPU and RAM, not hard-drive.
Get a test machine, install FSM10 and your solution and see what it takes.
For sure, I may be able to arrange that. I was wondering if anyone already knew, though. Thanks for your comment.
Thanks for posting.
While the 80 GBs are listed as minimum/recommended requirements you should be ok so long as long as you take into account your database/backup sizes and possible expansion. For example, a FileMaker Server hosting databases that add up to 2-3 GBs should run ok in a less than 80 GB environment (assuming all of the other specs are met).
Okay, that's what I figured, and reflects our current setup. Thanks very much for the confirmation.-- Peter
