Mad as hell about Filemaker Server 13 ports 80/443 REQUIREMENT

      Your post

Today we spent 3 hours uninstalling Filemaker Server 12, attempting a Filemaker Server 13 install, running into the port 80/443 requirement, calling tech support, and being told that Filemaker Server 13 (unlike Filemaker Server 12) REQUIRES exclusive use of ports 80/443 both during the install and on an ongoing basis.

Surely we must have missed this requirement in the Release Notes --- but something this serious was not documented anywhere that we could find. We were offered only one option and that was that Filemaker Server 13 now REQUIRES its own physical or virtual machine. And this new requirement also was not documented anywhere that we could find.

So we have the following choices, i.e. a) eliminate the conflicts on the existing machine or b) create a new virtual machine. We will probably decide on a new virtual machine for the following reasons:

      1. To date Filemaker tech support has proven incapable of helping us identify and resolve the port 80/443 conflicts.

      2. There is no guarantee that Filemaker product development will not at some future date make a unilateral design decision that causes additional incompatibilities.

So in addition to the 3 hours wasted today on this aborted installation, Filemaker Server 13 will cost us money for the additional labor and hardware to create a new virtual machine.

That this REQUIREMENT for a dedicated physical or virtual server for Filemaker Server 13 was not documented exhibits incompetence, negligence, and a complete disregard for customer costs for IT support.
