Shameless bump. If I could get some advice that would be great. At this moment I can't proceed with this project until I can get this server configured.
I have the exact same problem. Trying to install the evaluation version on a brand new Mac Mini out of the box and get the exakt same error message.
How is that possible??
Since I'm not getting any assistance on this I decided to double check to see if there were any software updates and I was happy to see that 10.0v2 exists. I download it on the server and attempt to run to be only given the message that "This software requires Mac OS X 10.4 or 10.5". I really would like to hear something from FileMaker regarding this. I really need to get this database setup soon.
FMS 10's requirements on this web site only specify OSX 10.4 and 10.5.x , but not OSX 10.6.x, and since it's just released, I have not seen anything saying it's compatible with 10.6 yet. When FMS 9 was out, it took quite a while for it to support OSX 10.5 after release also.
Yes, the 10.0.2 version is Mac only. I have been digging deeper into this and it seems that the problem is with the version of Java installed. FMSA 10.0.1 seems to want Java ver 5, while FMSA 10.0.2 works with Java 6. On Mac you can change Java settings under Utility software, move ver 5 of Java (if you have it) to the top.
On Windows I have no clue, but presumably you should be able to select or install Java 5.
Thank you for your post.
With FileMaker Server 9, you need Java 6 Update 7 or earlier. It will not work with more recent versions.
With FileMaker Server 10, we certified with Java 6 Update 7, and several users are able to run with more recent versions, while others have been unable to run, but do get FileMaker Server 10 working with Java 6 Update 7.
The answer from Tjones is correct (Well done in discovering the solution!).
I've gotten around the problem by performing an uninstall of the original disc version and installing the 10.0v2 trial version instead to get the server up and running.
TSGal, would you recommend downgrading Snow Leopard to Java 5 as per:
Since getting on SL, I have issues with various client's servers on FMS9/Mac and FMS10a/Win, even if server is on latest update. Works fine with FMS 11, but alas, that's just my own server.
