Progressive backup drive getting full.
So I looked around and did not find any information on what happens when the progressive backup drive gets full.
How is this managed? Error, rewrite?
FMS should automatically delete the oldest backups as room is needed I believe. Edit: I just checked the size of my Progressive Backup folder. It was only 90MB. It's set to back up every 19 minutes and has been going for a few months. This process really should,t use much space.
So as this has turned out Progressive Backup is only storing the 2 most recent backups. This is not what I expected? Is this normal?
Normal I believe. Progressive backup does not replace regular backups. You should also have a basic backup schedule enabled.
I have regularly scheduled backups running at daily, weekly and monthly. I was looking to progressive backups to provide me with backups every 15 minutes. We have times when a lot can change in a few minutes and it would be nice to restore from one of the progressive backups.
I would figure that progressive backup would not delete any of the timestamped folders until it needed to. This would allow for isolating the problem to an exact time window and restoring as much data as possible.
I guess keeping only 2 latest backups fits with the FAQ story about setting progressive backups to 1 min and not being able to restore any data if all records were accidentally deleted if you try to restore 2-3 minutes later.
You can always set your hourly backup, or any other schedule, to back up every few minutes. It will save a maximum of 99 backups.
