      remote moviemac:

      Your post

      Hi,

I would like to include movie files in my FileMaker DB on a Mac OS server. In a non-remote setting I use moviemac: for this so that the movie files can be played directly from the FM database. However, this does not work on FileMaker Server.

Can anyone tell me how to do this? The movie files reside on the Mac OS server as well. If needed, I could put them in the same directory as the database file (.fp7) which includes them.

      Thanks in advance!

Not being a mac user, I don't recognize "moviemac:"

Are these movies that are inserted in container fields?

If so, all inserted movies are inserted by reference. That means that the file path to the actual file is stored in the container field. Moving the file to the server may result in a situation where the file path in the container field is no longer valid.

You'll need the following before your network clients can access the movie files inserted in your container fields:

The file path must be valid from the context of the client.
The remote volume must be mounted/mapped with the same file path as that stored in the container field.

The location where the files are stored must grant at least read only access to the files and in the case of one recently confirmed bug, with some servers read-only access rights are insufficient for this to work:    http://forums.filemaker.com/posts/52cf44da3c#174697

This is one of many acknowledged bugs that can be found in the Known Bug List thread here in the Report an Issue section of the forum.

It can also be downloaded as a database file from:    http://www.4shared.com/file/8orL8apk/FMP_Bugs.html
