You'll need to convert your fmp files to the latest file format. (File format has not changed since FMP 7 and the converted files will show ".fp7" in their file names).
Launch FMP 9 and then use the file menu to open the 5.5 files. FMP will create converted copies for you. This is a big version jump, so your converted files may not work perfectly until you test the files and update a script or calculation definition here and there. You would also want to use Manage | External Data Sources to clean up your file references. The converted files may open very, very slowly until you do so.
Thank you so far with the help. Being that the database is from version 5 can I use FM6 to convert or should I go directly to the current version? Once I have converted them how do I upload the database in to server 9? This particular database has many smaller databses all linked in and storing particular info such as clients, another is purchase orders etc. There is a main menu that shows up with links to other modules.
How do I then load it in to FM Server 9?
Thanks so much.
Not having any intermediate apps, I was able to convert 5.5 files into FMP 10 so it can be done in one step. I then had to fix and patch before all the scripts and such worked correctly.
I don't have FMS 9. I use FMS 10. In FMS 10, there are simple steps built around the action "upload a file". This copies the database files into a location on the server where FMS 10 opens and hosts them so that other users can remotely access them.
Check your documentation, there should be simple instructions on how do do this in FMS 9.
I highly suggest reading the migration technical briefs.
