First thing is to either obtain a static public ip address or subscribe to a service like noip.com. Your computer's ip address, lilkey 192.168.xx.xx, is not a public ip. Next, read the Getting Started guide and make sure you have the correct ports open and properly forwarded on your router.
yes I've done all that Rick thx, but still nothing on the public IP / using dyndns, but locally I do see this: Wondering if there is something different about this server. Previously I had MAMP PRO running (now disabled) and sites running just fine. But perhaps it is a port problem...
Never mind, problem solved. DYNDNS was down. Fixed with a real domain from Godaddy :) BUT NOTE: fmserve does not seem to work if you have domain masking on. That's pretty strange. Now my public IP is shown whenever someone logs in from the web. Anyone know a workaround?
You can assign a domain to the IP address. The nature of networks is your IP address will be available if you are hosting anything. There are ways to obscure this but not sure you want to do that.
Setup a subdomain that points to your IP and you are set. for example fms.yourdomain.com . Not sure why you need to hide your IP.
Thx all, all is up and running at www.phoenixstudiosnepal.net. Even figured out how to edit the home pages and css files. Really loving this product set, as compared to the equivalent in MS Land (MS server, SQL server, Sharepoint, etc.).
Next up is to figure out how to make FileMaker server co-exist with other servers (MAMP PRO or Yosemite Server, etc.). I had to disable all of that on this machine to get FileMaker server to work right. But all seems well outside of that. Thx!
Ps.On obscuring my public IP address, I always thought it was good form to do that. I tried to hide it using DYNDNS hostname, but it appears they are having problems at the moment. But I suppose it does not really matter, eh?
