    Webdirect Drag

      Webdirect Drag & Drop support

      Your post

According to this page Webdirect supports drag & drop of files into container fields, however it does not seem to work in any web browser. Even with the provided starter solution Content Management, it does not work.

is there anything i can do to make this work or is the information from Filemaker wrong and is there no support?

          Thank you for the post.

I am not able to replicate. I am able to drag and drop files from my desktop into a container field in WebDirect using Safari, Chrome, and Internet Explorer.

With what browser were your tests performed?

From where were the files being dragged?

Any steps I am missing to replicate?

            Hi,

            I've made a short video.

            I am using windows 7 pro, FMA14 and FMS14.

I am using the starter solution Content Management, in its original state. Webdirect is enabled for the file.

First you see me using it in the client, where i can succesfully drag and drop an image file.

When i do the same action in the webbrowser (Chrome), nothing happens.

            Hope this helps.

Thank you for the reply and video.

I am still unable to replicate. I uploaded the Content Management starter solution to FileMaker Server 14.0.1 using FileMaker Pro 14.0.1. Using Window 7, I am able to drag and drop an image from Windows Explorer using both Chrome 43 and Internet Explorer 11.

              Are you using Chrome 43?

Does this work if using Internet Explorer 11?

Does this work from another computer?

What is operating system of the FileMaker Server computer?

Anything else I might be missing to replicate?

We found the issue. Form inside the network drag & drop works, but when accessed from outside it only works through https.

It is not an option for us to purchase SSL certificates - Is there a way to make this work through HTTP?

“It is not an option for us to purchase SSL certificates”

Purchasing an SSL certificate should not be necessary for this to work externally. When inserting files into a container field, port 443 and 5003 are used (unless other ports were specified during deployment).

Are ports 80, 443, (or alternate ports) and 5003 forwarded on the modem or router of the network for the FileMaker Server host computer?

Additionally, here is the knowledge base article for all the ports used by FileMaker Server 14:

We have opened all ports temporarily but it still does not work. BTW inserting files in the  normal way (by using the browse dialog) has always worked fine, it is only drag & drop that does not work though HTTP.

                    Anything else we can try?

A report has been submitted to Testing and Development to see if we are able to reproduce.

Thank you. We couldn't make it work so we had no option but purchasing an SSL certificate. But I'd be interested to hear your results.

                              Dylan L.:

Our Testing department has also been unable to replicate the issue using all three browsers, three different image types (JPG, GIF and PNG), dragged from both Mac OS X and Windows clients, against two different hosts (Mac OS X 10.10.3 and Windows 2012), including an external server (Amazon AWS).

At this point, Testing would like to get a copy of your database file and image file so they can try to reproduce the issue.  Check your Inbox at the top of this page for instructions where to send the files.
