Did you try to store theses settings in a script, where the Print step is defined to restore settings you put into ?
I know that FileMaker ignore the OS default printer and surely also ignore the tray by default of the specified printer. So just try to drive it by scripts.
I'm not sure I understand what you mean. I can only find two script elements for a printer and those are "Print Setup" and "Print". I use Print Setup right before Print and in both, I clearly state to use the MPT tray but it doesn't work that way.
Well, i asked you to try with "Print" step not "Print setup" but if you tried both and that doesn't work, it is a bad news, sorry.
During my own tests it worked with FileMaker Pro 14.0.2, OS X 10.9.5 and a HP Officejet Pro X576dw.
Are your drivers up to date and well configured ?
I will test the same on Windows ASAP.
If I don't use the Print Setup step, it always prints to the default tray so that step is definitely required.
I forgot to mention I got a Brother printer with two trays and a MPT and it works fine there as long as I use Print Setup.
And yes, the Xerox Phaser is a brand new printer with the latest drivers. Everything is configured as it should - since every other piece of software works correctly, I can only assume it's a result of Filemaker being more experienced with Apple printers. It's quite baffling that the software would completely ignore Windows settings of the printer.
Definitely strange to me. AFAIK Print Setup step is only working for paper size and portrait / landscape setting, not to specify a tray. For that i use the Print step.
Also, the Print step is the only to be able to store the Printer selection (printer's name). This is definitely not the case for Print Setup.
But i may misunderstood your initial explanation due to my approximative english (sorry) ?
We have seen the same issue.
Two users using the same printer on the network. Both users have the same printer drivers.
Each user is on the same database running the exact print request (Same script)
One user prints fine, when the other user prints, Filemaker attempts to print to the manual tray (tray 1)
I would select the printer from the print step as Fred suggested. Click specify print options. Make sure the correct printer is selected, then select properties next to your printer and make sure the correct tray is selected.
You can google / bing for Filemaker Print Plugs to find a list of plugins that may give you more control over your printer in FM.
Thanks for all the replies. It seems plugins are the best solution but they're way too expensive. We decided to use a different printer and oddly enough, it works fine with this one (and it's a Xerox as well). Seems Filemaker is a little picky ...
It could be the print driver that is having a conflict with FM. You might have to use a newer driver and or roll back to an older driver with problem printer.
