For FMS 14 Admin console https:/[server IP]:16000/
For web direct: https://[server IP]/fmi/webd
When you get the certificate, you can put the domain name in instead of IP.
Have you turned on the Security option in the Admin Console? It will use the self signed certificate until you install the new 3rd party certificate. But it will prompt you each time or give you an ugly URL line showing it is insecure.
Thanks for the follow up. I am familiar with how to reach each of the services. For clarity I do have the SSL option to reach databases on and it does work with FMP. The server was rebooted after installing the certificate so all should be in order. However, when connecting to webd, a connection is still permitted with http://FQDN/fmi/webd. The browser does not show an encrypted connection.
I am looking to confirm :
-If it is SSL via http they why no lock suggesting secure in the browser?
-If it is not secure via http then why is the system allowing the http connection when I have requested SSL in Admin Console?
I don't want to allow an insecure connection at all and it seems that this could be a security problem since I can connect both ways from the response my browser is giving.
Very interesting, Erich. I have tried several times on my server and I cannot make a WebDirect connection any other way than with https. Are you sure the certificate was installed properly? You made the CSR on fmsadmin and got a CRT back from the 3rd party SSL provider and installed it with command line on FileMaker (fmsadmin certificate import.... )?
If I were you and this is persisting, I would reinstall FMS and then reinstall the certificate. I've done this on a number of servers and they all work properly for me and won't connect without an https connection.
One other thought, there was an issue with FMS 14.0v1 and SSL certificates. Make sure you are using FMS 14.0v2.
Yep. All install certificate tasks done as you mentioned. I was hoping to avoid a reinstall but I think I am headed down that road. We are on 126.96.36.199 which I thought covered that. Thanks for the ideas.
Here is another idea. Our's is a two box system. Do you know how that impacts things? I have a certificate for both systems. They were both generated and installed in accordance with the procedure you mentioned.
