If it has to be a 5 digit or 9 digit number, then something like this as a reusable Auto-Enter Calc:
TextColor ( cleanzip ; RGB ( 255 ; 0 ; 0 ) ) Turns the number red and leaves it as imported
When I do the Import using the function listed above the "Import Field Mapping" screen shows a hyphen between the "Source Field" and the "Target Field", which means do not import. When I try to change it I only get a red "x". I need a way that allows the import to happen on the zipcode and once it is imported then I need to add the hyphens after five digits. I appreciate any help you can give me and thank you for your patience.
You can't import into calculation fields.
Define ZipRAW as text, import into it, define your zip Calc as a calc field operating on ZipRAW.
You don't need 2 field. Change the zip code field to a text field and use a Calculate Values for the zip code field. Do not check the "Do not replace existing value" checkbox.
Where is this checkbox located?
Go to your fields in Manage Database. Select the zip code field and then tap Options... Select calculated value to enter your calculation. then make sure the Do Not Replace is unchecked.
