Is there a way to push plug-ins and plug-in updates to all connected systems through Filemaker Admin Console?
The link below provides a great method to install plug-ins. Read through it and let us know if you have any questions or problems.
Thanks for the link, but is there any way to push the script that installs the plugins located in the database to every computer on your network?
No. You have to build the script into your solution(s) and it has to be run locally on the client. Typically you do that in the "on open" script for your solution.
You can NOT push it from the server but if you build it in the "open file" script of a FileMaker file, which you host on FileMaker Server the plug-in can be installed automatically when the user opens the file.
To make it easy: We ship our plug-ins with an EasyInstallTroiPlugins.fmp12, which can do this.
Take a look at our Troi File Plug-in for example, to see how this works:
Does that help?
If you use a product such as FileWave or other device management system, you can work with your IT department to have a plugin installed on the computers which need it. In a managed environment such as that, you can request that the plugin file be added to the file set associated with FileMaker, in the Extensions folder.
For instance, to install a plugin named MyPlugIn.fmplugin for all users on a given Mac, you'd ask that MyPlugI.fmplugin be installed in "Macintosh HD/Applications/FileMaker Pro 14/Extensions" for all Filemaker Pro 14 users. To make any updates, you'd have to have the device management administrator update the file and "push" it out. Not automatic, but in a managed environment where more than one user might use a given computer, it's an easy route to use to ensure that anyone who boots up FileMaker will have the plug-in available to them.
