I was wondering if there is a script to keep the ipad screen on, or any other way for filemaker to keep the screen on in the go app.
I know there is a setting to change it in the ipad but I was hoping for another alternative
Take a look at Kiosk solution. Creating Kiosk solutions (FileMaker Pro Advanced)
how does this keep the iPad from going to sleep?
It doesn't. The post was not clear and it did not state sleep. I understand that kiosk mode can be setup on an ios device so the user can not exit out of the database.
Yes, my question is regarding the ipad going to sleep. Is there a way to just leave the screen on while a script is running or something like that
The device going to sleep is controlled by the os not FM.
Ok, I was just wondering if there was a way to override that, such as say when an iPad is playing a movie it doesn’t go to sleep.
I was trying to see if there was a way to implement that
As already stated, your post was unclear, stay on can mean a lot of different things. When post are unclear you will get guess. Kiosk mode can be setup so the user can not exit the databases. Sleep is control by the OS system not by FM, so no you can not control the device going to or not going to sleep directly within filemaker.
You might want to research, if this can be done in java, then you might be able to control within a webviewer if the device goes to sleep. I don't know if possible, but a suggestion to research.
I don't always understand posts. But "keep the ipad screen on" translated to "not sleep" in my brain.
Maybe because I get these issues, too. We have a way to prevent re-login if it goes to sleep, but no way to 'keep alive'. I don't know if a script can be triggered which loops and makes the device think there is activity (perhaps stop on any key stroke?) But that may present other problems.
The ipad is still power on in sleep mode, reduced power state but it still on, so no I would not consider the ipad off in sleep mode. I put my iPhone in sleep mode when it's in my pocket and I still receive calls because it still on.
In any case why not just ask "Is there a way to prevent my ipad from going into sleep mode from a script" then there is no misunderstanding.
Sorry my mind reading skill are a little off, I'll keep working on it.
You say that the OS doesn't go to sleep when playing video, does it also not go to sleep when playing audio? Could you put a container field with a looping audio track on the layout, but playing just silence? There are a few silent songs around that you can download.
I've been meaning to try this for a while and haven't got around to it.
The iPad is still receiving notifications in sleep mode, but it doesn’t keep the app open and running in sleep mode. So if you are running a long script the iPad will go to sleep in the middle of the script and stop the app when it goes to sleep,
I tested this on my iPad

That’s a brilliant idea, but I believe it does turn off the screen when playing audio unfortunately
Is the script something that could be run from the server rather than the iPad?
