Orientation lock does not work on iOS 9

    lavendt

Just tested on iPad mini3 with iOS9.0.2 installed as well as FMGO 14.0.3

When you have a solution and hold the iPad in landscape, press a button that is supposed to lock orientation, it should rotate and lock in portrait view. However, if you run a script with this script step, the screen just flickers.

When you rotate the iPad to portrait, the flickering stops, but the lock never works.

This was working perfectly on the same iPad on iOS8 when I showcased the new feature at DevCon.

You can see it in this video....

          Thank you for your post.

Split screen devices will no longer support "Set Allowed Orientation". Apple no longer supports the idea of device orientation due to the introduction of split screen and slide-over in iOS 9.  They say “In iOS 9, it’s no longer appropriate to think in terms of device idiom or interface orientation”. More information on Apple's Documentation HERE.

A FileMaker Documentation request has been placed and I will respond to this thread if and when it becomes available.

I hope this information is of use.

            Hi TSPigeon

Thank you for your fast response.

This sounds plain dumb. There is a reason for locking down the orientation and while someone at Apple might think they got a great idea, this is plain stupid !

I know this is not in either your or your colleagues control, but sometimes it seems like some people at Apple has lost their minds with fancy ideas that are not working in the real world.

Nevertheless, the screen should not be flickering. That is a bug, which causes bad user experiences and either Apple (preferable) or the engineers at FMI needs to take action on this.

I agree the flickering isn’t something we want to see. I will try to reproduce the issue and report it to Testing and Development nonetheless. When I receive any feedback I will let you know!

I really have to agree with Claus.

This is a huge step back.

Control over the orientation lock is imperative.

                  @All:

Thank you for your patience on official documentation.

Set Allowed Orientation is no longer supported in iOS 9. This will affect devices that support Split Screen. For more information see Knowledge Base Article #15385.

I'm ok with the fact of the matter.

But I'm not ok with the implementation of the no longer supported command.

The flickering of the screen should be avoided in the next update til Go and Pro if you ask me.

                      Hi

I just step in the discussion facing for the first time the same issue in an app store submission process for an app only working on iPhone...

Because of Apple's Guideline my app have to open on iPad too, even with a x2 zoom factor...

On iphone orientation is locked, on ipad not ...  it's not what I expected but with my slide a block technique I can handle the rotation - I can even handle perfectly the split view ... with one layout only...

with Xcode you can locked orientation but the result is strange

I have a locked orientation by script on portrait mode

on my ipad mini4 or iPad pro

if I start in landscape, I can rotate to portrait mode and lock after

if I start in protrait, locked from start

Update about split view on iPad pro...

FileMaker Go handle the split view, not the ipa file

my slide a block technique works well in first case

+1 for this being a stupid decision.

                        put it back, thanks.

                          see:

                          FileMaker Product Roadmap

Deprecated features being removed from FileMaker Next [FM16]

                          • Set Allowed Orientation script step

Since Orientation Lock with iPhone still works with FMGo15 on iOS10.1, FMI could leave this function with FMGo16 and add a disclaimer "will work only with iPhone" / "won't work with Split Screen Devices".
