Question about adding lines/field seperation to a print layout

Question asked by AdamHorne on Oct 6, 2015

I’m having a problem with formatting a print layout. I’m trying to print an itemized list of equipment going out in an order.

Here is my goal for this layout….

Having a layout that will be flexible expand/contract with the field contents...

I’ve created a calculation field that will have the equipment name and the serial numbers checked out. When my serial number list gets long, it chops off the line. I decided to make this a merged field on my print layout and make the box bigger to accommodate this. I’ve used a slide controls to slide up based on: Only object directly above and I’ve checked the box to “Also resize enclosing part”

Everything was working well until I tried to add a line and separate the items. I started to get undesirable results…

First, I tried turning on the borders around the fields. I get double lines at the top and bottom and it will no longer shrink dynamically with the field contents.

The example isn’t fine tuned, but you get the idea.

Next, I tried drawing a line along the bottom. I got the same results… My fields will no longer shrink according to its contents.

Finally, to see if it was the line effecting the contents sliding, I turned off all borders and removed all lines.

My layout needs to be flexible to accommodate both multiple lines and single lines.

Am I going about this all wrong? Should I not be using merged fields or should I be? Is there a way to turn on lines in the body of the layout?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
