When using custom menus, CTRL-W won't close a window

Having some issues with custom menus as I know if I don't include a certain menu (like delete record) then it grays it out on the toolbar and disables that action.  I have a script that opens a record in a new window, so I always press CTRL-W to close it.  When I use a custom menu though, that doesn't work.  I've tried adding the built in [Windows] menu but still nothing.  As a test under my custom menu I just went in, picked Add, and selected every single built in menu (it made the menu bar like 3 rows tall due to so many options) but it still doesn't work.  Only when using the built in FileMaker menus does CTRL-W close the window.  Any suggestions on what I'm missing?
