I would not have created another copy of the layout. I'm presuming you need the word 'DUPLICATE' on the print out of the 2nd & 3rd copies.
I would create a global field and place it in the background (as merge field).
In the script, I'd clear the field to (empty) and print once, then in the same script I'd set the field to "DUPLICATE" and print twice more.
I've done this same thing recently, but wondering if there's a performance or best practice that I should be embracing. Beverly, any reason why you suggest a global field instead of a global variable inserted into the layout?
Either will work. I find it easier to resize fields and if conditional formatting is need. Just a preference, perhaps?

Just one question. At the moment I need to print via Printer dialog.
So after starting the script there's at first the dialog for printing the original and then the dialog for printing the duplicates.
Is there a possibility to automate this? Just pushing the print button and that's it?
Would be great, if it's possible and even better, if you know how to get it working
