To check if you have deleted the pdf's why not create a new layout and just put that container field on it and your primary key field (ID field). Then you can see if they are still there.
When you delete a tab control it will not delete data in those records. It is still stored in FileMaker, but may not be displayed on your layout anymore.
Thank you for our suggestion Chris. I did as you outlined and the containers work on the new layout but still don't work on the original layout.
I think I have a glitch. I really don't want to recreate that layout again!
Any other ideas?
A little hard to diagnose without more information but here are some questions that may assist you to work out a solution.
Is the container field in the same table that the layout is based on? If not it may be something to do with the relationship between the table occurrence of the layout and the table occurrence of the field. What is the relationship keyed on (ie. what fields are used to create the relationship between the two tables).
You mentioned you have a "3-tab field" - I assume you mean you have a tab control object with 3 tabs on it. Sometimes when moving fields and tabs etc your field might end up on one of the other tabs, or on the layout underneath the tabs. Check on the other tab controls - try moving the tab control to the back of layout (on the inspector, position tab, Arrange section).
If you are unsure please provide more information about the layout and field, what tables they are both in, and what the relationship is.
Hope this helps. Chris
You said you made changes to the source file. By any chance, are these externally stored containers?
Sorry Chris. I appreciate your patience with me
The container field is on the same table that the layout is based on. I tried moving things around and moving tab control in the inspector. No luck.
Let me try and describe it another way because you are right ... I didn't give enough information:
I have 12 records on my layout and the 3 container fields now only work on 2 out of the 12 records.
On the new layout you suggested I make - the containers work on all 12 records but will only populate in the 2 records on the old layout.
Did I just confuse the issue even more?
Thanks again for your help!
No, they are not externally stored. I just inserted the pdf.
Some more ideas ...
1. Do you have portals on your tab controls? Are the container fields inside portals?
2. In layout mode, double click on the container field - this should open a "Specify Field" dialog. Check the table occurrence - shown in the top of the dialog box is the same table occurrence that the layout is based on. Remember that a table occurrence is different from a table. The underlying table for the layout and the field may be the same but if the table occurrences are different that could be a part of the problem.
Two of the three fields had a "look up" table occurrence not the actual layout occurrence.
Thank you so much!!
I'm back up and running again
Happy to help
