Do you use Windows? Can you "export field content" ?
I'm afraid that if you drag&dropped PDF into the field on FM11, then they are saved as OLE object, it is no more supported and you need save each file by hand.
I have a mac?
I didn't drag and drop in filemaker 11 I right clicked in the field and selected the save file option.
does that make a difference
It is good that you did insert files. (may not be reference only)
Then, do the changing layout as jrenfrew wrote.
And, change container contents to PDF from FILE using this calculation (pdf::c means your container field)
Base64Decode ( Base64Encode ( pdf::c ) ; GetContainerAttribute ( pdf::c ; "filename" ))
(Loop through records with Set Field script step, or use Repalce Field Contents. You should try with copied file first, since you can't undo it.)
Thank you so much for that I will be doing that today
Not sure if this thread is too old for someone to see ... put figured I would give it a try! I am having the exact container field conversion problem originally posted. I have tried many different approaches to getting the "old" PDFs (new ones interact fine) to be interactive/displayed. I read with interest the use of a calculation " Base64Decode ( Base64Encode ( pdf::c ) ; GetContainerAttribute ( pdf::c ; "filename" )) " with much interest and have stumbled upon it elsewhere. However, I am not an "advanced" FMP hacker (I learn mostly by immersion and fire) and the syntax is lost on me. Curious if someone could "expand" on the "exactness" of the syntax, for a Base64Decode newbie, so I might try applying it to the container fields in our DB. Much thanks in advance for any insight!
