xml uses a grammar/dtd/xsd/schema/format of some kind to know HOW it is to be arranged. Sometimes it needs to be validated against this grammar.
We need to know what grammar it is to be.
to "export" you can:
1. use the FMPXMLRESULT grammar (default export as XML) and apply XSLT (stylesheet) to transform to the desired grammar.
2. or use calculations to create the TEXT (with XML tags and formatting) and export.
Do you have either of these and just need a script to perform?
Hi Beverly, Thanks for your help. I think a text file with XML schema would be okay. I tried file ->export -> XML Files and that gave me every record in the database. I only want to export the active record.
That's in your export dialog. Select "Current Record".

edited! Sorry, hit send before proofing. "Current Record" is part of the PRINT dialog, not the EXPORT dialog. You'll need to isolate the single record so that it's the only one found. Then Export.
One simple way to isolate a record is with these script steps:
- Show All records
- omit record
- show omitted records
- ... (rest of script)
In addition, if you need to keep found set after export, first
and after export
I like making a self relationship using primary key field, then
Go to Related Record
can do it with one step.
bokenrosie, if you allow UTF-16 for the result,
Set Field [ anyGlobalTextField ; <<calculation for XML>>]
Export Field Contents
may be easy way. (method 2 of beverly wrote)
