You don't need to do anything. If someone edits a record, and another user is connected "watching" that same record, then filemaker will push the update from the editing user to the "watching" user. Their screen will blink and they will see the change.
There are some exceptions to this (most notably portal data), but there is no "trigger" needed as long as the layout the user is watching is based on the same table of the record that is being changed.
This is one of the reasons WebDirect is so useful, because it has that filemaker "magic" of auto-refreshing.
We overcame this limitation with portals by running a timer script that refreshes the page every x number of seconds. It was for mission critical stuff though.
