What's a double asterisk in SQL? It's listed under operators in the official FileMaker documentation.
To which "official FileMaker documentation" are you referring?
In SQL the ** is exponentiation operator
2^3 = 8
2**3 = 8
(although I've never used the **)
ok. That's helpful. Thankyou
I'm still curious in which "FM" document you saw this?
It's on page 24 and 27 of FileMaker 13 SQL Reference
yeh, FileMaker 14 SQL reference guide. Pg 27 I was on
Right, time to update my library.
ok. Operator precedence. ^ and ** on the same line...
Also, I believe most of that applies to FM as ODBC source. I have not tested usage of ** in ExecuteSQL(). As I said, I've never used ** in any SQL (MS SQL, Oracle or MySQL).
Live and learn!
There are a few things in there that are not working. But the ExecuteSQL help and articles point to that Reference guide from FMI.
Yes I agree, I think most of it does apply to when querying a FM db via ODBC or JDBC.
I'd forgotten that ** was the same as ^ . Even though on the same line at that point , it didn't necc. mean they were the same , if you look at the other lines you'll see why.
Thanks for help though.
yes, but it's a little confusing as to what actually works where.
p.s. I guess that's why there are some "missing... guides" written.
