I am currently working on a database that tracks all employees and their supervisors. As it is right now, all employees have an EmpID and a SupervisorID (which correlates to a different EmpID). Unfortunately, I am only able to get one layer of the chain of command, I can only see employees who directly report to the viewed employee. I am wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to view the entire chain.
Also, to make things a little more difficult, we also track Time off records. Each record has an EmpID assigned to it, and supervisors need to be able to see time off records not only for themselves but, for all employees underneath them.
Check out 24U's infinite hierarchy demo. This might help you conceptually in dealing with "tree" structure data.
For supervisors you should probably make a separate layout that has the child relation to subordinate's time off records. You could use the infinite hierarchy model to list subordinates, and expand to time off records.
