Thank you for your post.
I was unable to reproduce this behavior in FileMaker Pro 14.0.4 ( Advanced) on Mac OS X or the Windows Operating System. To attempt to reproduce I followed these steps:
1. Created "test.fmp12"
2. Created a Popover Button
3. Created 20 of each Fields, Lines, Rectangles, Button Bars, and Buttons in the Popover Window
4. Continued Drawing new Buttons in the Popover Window without a crash
So things to try:
Can you reproduce this issue in a new Popover Button?
Can you reproduce in a new layout?
Can you reproduce this issue in a new file?
Can you run Recover and does it report damage?
If you have any further information to reproduce, please let me know.
Since reporting this, I rebooted the file computer and was able to complete adding the button to the Popover. I have run recover on the file. It did not find any problems. The file is/was hosted on my local development server.
The file/layout was in layout mode. All changes made in the session were lost. Layout reverted to previous state.
I will be working on this project over the next several days. If the problem recurs, I'll report it here. If not, I"ll let you know and we can close this.
Thanks for looking into this.
Since this was opened, I have found that FileMaker Pro Advanced continues to crash when adding buttons to a popover, but only after a few hours of work. Restarting FileMaker after the crash usually gives another couple of hours of use before it happens again. So it makes it difficult to predict when this will happen.
I only have the problem when doing development. So I'm going in and out of layout mode frequently and usually have the Script Workspace open as well.
can this get narrowed down to a kind of a cumulative effect?
If though, Quit FMPA and restart every hour maybe could prevent from any further crashes. This test could also give a hint to the underlying causes that leads to crash.
The OS is OS X Yosemite version 10.10.5, FileMaker Pro Advanced 14.0.4 running on a MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) with 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7 and 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3.
I tried to e-mail you a clone as requested, but the address firstname.lastname@example.org bounced with the database attached. Please confirm I have the correct address and I'll send you a clone of the file.
This continues to be a problem. Slight variation, the button doesn't have to be on a popover. That is the most common failure. Lately it can be a button anywhere. Attached is crash report from today. This time it was a button bar in the header portion of the layout. I was trying to edit the hide setting so that the button would only be visible when required.
I thought that this might be related to my computer, so I switched to a new MacBook Air (11 inch, Early 2015) running Yosemite 10.10.5. I have had the problem on that computer as well.
Please let me know if you need any more information.
Thank you for the information and responses.
I have failed to reproduce myself following the instruction you provided previously. I am going to forward your file and crash logs on to Testing and Development. Once I have further information, I will let you know!
Thank you for your patience.
Testing and Development has also been unable to reproduce a crash with your file, following your instructions. If you have further information, please let me know. Also, continue providing crash logs if you would like. The more crash logs, the more data to compare for finding the cause.
Testing and Development is requesting the following information:
What were the last five actions before crash?
How many files and windows were opened when crash?
Was Script Workspace opened?
Was Data Viewer opened?
Was Script Debugger opened?
