Thank you for your post.
I haven't found any reports similar to the issues you are seeing nor can I reproduce similar behavior on Mac OS X or the Windows Operating System. I would recommend the following:
-See if the issues are present in a New Starter Solution or New File.
-If the issue persists in a new file, do a complete uninstall and reinstall of FileMaker Pro 13v9 (Advanced).
-If the issue doesn't occur in a new file, run Recover on the "problem file".
-If the solution is damaged you might check Knowledge Base Article #5421.
I hope this information is of use!
About a year ago we had similar issues - menu bar items greyed out when they shouldn't be - and it was a conflict between the OS and FMP. Updates to both ended up resolving the issue. What version of the OS are you using?
I'm using FMP 13.0v5 on Mac 10.1.1
AFAIK, those are the latest versions of both.
I'm confused why FM doesn't maintain recent versions of software, if that's true. Microsoft maintains old versions of MS Office, for example, for years after a new version comes out. Ditto with Windows.
This is concerning.
Not encouraging that FM's only tool found nothing.
Seems like there's some other conflict. As the person below mentioned, perhaps there's an OS conflict?
Doesn't FM do any actual "logging" of system events to check or something more objective to see what might be happening?
Too much going on "behind the scenes" for me to diagnose.
With the "recovered" file, here's one of the serious issues I mentioned:
1. Open the non-resizable Field Picker.
2. Pick another related layout.
3. See a blank area with no fields
4. If you scroll down, you'll see fields from the layout you just came from.
5. If you click on layout fields, you often see nothing in the inspector's data field name field.
This looks to be a set of SERIOUS bugs.
Will FM do anything to help address this?
Can you attach a clone of the file?
That file is too private to post or email.
However, I did download FM 14 as a test and most of the issues I reported above do NOT happen there.
So, I guess the issue is whether I have to pay $329 for a bug fix or if FM will still maintain a product version (13 Adv) that's only a few months out of date?
Thanks for your reply.
P.S. I had also reported a JDBC bug earlier this year that cost me many many hours (and the free time I donated to reproduce and then report the bug to FM), but my only option to get that fix, from FM's reply, was to upgrade (at the full upgrade price, naturally) to 14. I am waiting for 15 and many basic features I hope will finally be there. Very disappointed by FM company support based on that experience and now these issues - though this self-help forum is amazing!
The latest version of 13 was 13.0v9 - so there is an update available to you. Give that a shot, I bet you'll be happier with the results.
Sorry, no difference with v9. Totally blank fields shown in the non-resizable field picker when going to another related layout. Sometimes now, in v9, the fields are blank when coming back. Same strange issues with buttons.
But, at least I have the latest apparently still buggy release.
Maybe it's an OS/X issue? Well, since the version of 14 I tested seemed to work correctly, that seems unlikely, hopefully, FM will jump in and offer some type of support to their customers.
What version of the OS are you currently running? Confirming your previous response.
FileMaker Pro will not run on Mac OS X 10.1. Did you mean Mac OS X 10.10? Or Mac OS X 10.11? The latter was not tested with FileMaker Pro 13, so that could be a possible issue. Please clarify.
I guess you mean OS X 10.11.1, which goes by the name of El Capitan.
Here's a link to documentation regarding compatibility with FMP13:
I have used virtually every version of FileMaker Advanced (without plugins) on every Mac operating system without issue. Currently FMA 11, 12, 13, and 14 all work well on El Capitan.
