sliding works in preview
the mesurement palette shows the position of the current object (or a group of objects) - You can reposition an object using that palette, but 'blank' is not allowed...
Object sliding only applies in Preview mode and when printing.
Are you able to include the 'test' text in the text block above it, i.e. after your merge fields? That way it will keep it's position even when in Browse mode....
@Markus Schneider and @skywillmott,
I did overlook that it only shows in preview mode, but when I switch to it, it still remains all the way at the bottom of the screen, while the text object above is much smaller.
When I apply different data to the text object above, so it becomes taller or smaller, and every time I switch to Preview mode, but the 'test' object stays at the bottom.
I tried aplying both of these
to the 'test' object.
The big object above with the varying letter in it has nothing aplied:
I understand it looks to you as if I can add the 'test' item to the block above, indeed. But I used this as an example to get the fuctionality working. In reality it is about a block of text full of company-data that my client wouldn't like me to disclose. It needs to be aligned at about two third to the right, and vary in vertical position depending on the text above. It can't be integrated due the varying length of the text on the left of it...
Ah, the large text object above should also have 'Sliding up' enabled and also the checkbox for 'Also resize enclosing part' if wanted...
there's a lot you can achieve in Form View only with designated anchors setting of objects. But this will never skip any gaps you get from dynamic objects (different text lengths) OR conditionally hidden object (HideObject IF).
That was it! It is working!
It apears a bit unnatural to me, so I never tried it * : I'm now applying "Slide object up" to an object that I never need to slide anywhere. It just needs to pull in the remaining end of itself.
Thanks to all. regards, Thomas.
* Actually I did try it, but I wasn't using Preview mode at that time
