    Script Workspace

    rog63

      FileMaker 14.0.4, Mac OS 10.10.5

Almost every time I use the Script Workspace and create or modify a script there is a problem when switching back to FileMaker.

I find that the majority of items from the Menubar are unavailable. The only solution I have found is to quit FileMaker and relaunch which clears the problem until the next time I use the Workspace.

I never had a problem in previous versions using Script Editor. Any suggestions welcome, mine would be to scrap the present version and go back to the old Script Editor which I found to work without any problems.

          Thank you for your post.

I am unable to reproduce any issue after closing Script Workspace and saving changes I have made to a script on Mac OS X 10.10.5. Some things to help narrow down the issue:

          - Try out the Script Workspace in a new file or new Starter Solution.

               - Do you still see issues after modifying scripts and exiting the Script Workspace?

               - If the issues persist, you might uninstall and reinstall FileMaker Pro 14.0.4.

-Let me know if the issue persists after the reinstall.

          - You might run Recover on your file with FileMaker Pro 14.0.4.

               - If it reports a damaged file, you may go through steps to recover: What to do when your file is corrupt | FileMaker

I look forward to your response!

Thank you for the suggestions. I tried a new Starter Solution as you suggested and the fault still existed, so it looks like I will have to reinstall the software.

This means I need a little further advice. On the FileMaker website I can download updates to software, but does this install everything once I have removed the existing application. I do not have any original Installation software as it was an upgrade to an earlier version.

            Thanks,

It is correct that installers are not available directly from our website. You would need installation media received upon purchasing. If you purchased from FileMaker, Inc. directly, then I would Contact Support and have your Software Download Page sent back out to you.

I have now reinstalled the software as you suggested. The problem still exists and in my opinion it could be related to the name of the script.

                I did the following

                1. Created a New Solution using Inventory as my choice

                2. Went to Script Workspace and selected a script

                3. Clicked on the name of the script and modified it by adding a “1” after the name.

                4. Saved the script

                5. Went back to FileMaker and the many items including Scripts were unavailable as they were Grey/Gray from the Menubar

                I hope this helps.

Please note that I have both FileMaker 9 and 12 also installed on my iMac. I don’t think this would cause the problem, but thought it worth mentioning.

So, it seems to be happening with new files and persisting after reinstall. Could you respond with some screen shots of the issue?

FileMaker Pro 9 and FileMaker Pro 12 should not affect your FileMaker Pro 14 installation.

I am not exactly certain as to which Screen Shots will help you. I have taken one of the Script options from the menu bar after the fault has been caused and this is attached. There is also one showing the reduced number of menu items available.

                    I hope this helps.

Thanks very much for your help. I am sure the problem will be resolved.

I cannot imagine that I am the only person with this problem, so a solution should help you and a few other users.

We are able to reproduce your screenshots when the Script Workspace is open. When you close the Script Workspace window, do your menus work as expected?

Unfortunately not. Once FileMaker is in that state, the only solution is to Quit the application and relaunch. I just tried this to confirm that this is what happens.

                            Hope that helps,

                              A couple more things:

                              - Verify that no other files or windows are open and take a screen shot of the Window Menu, while in this state.

                              - If you log into the computer with a different Admin User, does the problem persist?

                              - Are you able to reproduce this behavior on a different machine?

Attached is the screen shot of the Window Menu.

I only use one iMac so I cant help you with testing on a different machine. I also only use one Admin account and I never had problems using that with previous versions of FileMaker. If required I could set up another account tomorrow. Please let me know if that would help.

Normal Window Menu for being in a layout. It would be good to know if it is happening in another Admin account. If you could test with a new account and let me know what happen, it would be much appreciated.

I created a new Admin Account and fmkr seems to work normally. When switching from the Script Window to FileMaker, all the Menus appear.
