How big is the PDF? Is it happening on all of your computers or just the one?
the pdfs are pretty small (less than 400 kB). The crash happens on all computers I have (5 macs) when I am browsing the layout with the container. The pdf is inserted as a link and pdf files are on a NAS. I am using El Capitan on all computers and Filemaker 14.0.4
The files being on a NAS may be a valuable clue. What happens if you change it over to a local drive on the host instead?
If you're only doing temporary storage for display, you could even store the file inside of filemaker.
As for crash-causing, I'm hesitant to say if the NAS is the root cause of that. But filemaker trying to force-load a file that has access restrictions has caused issues for me before.
yes, this is what I thought, but the fact is that FileMaker 13 deals with them flawlessly... I have tested it with FileMaker 13 and I do not see the issue...
Not to sound patronizing, but filemaker 13 and 14 ARE separate programs. Things like web viewers and embedded previews regularly change functionality version to version, as filemaker builds or updates support for third party vendors.
Have you installed the latest update to filemaker on your server as well?
What updates to something such as adobe have you made outside of filemaker?
Can you test it on something with an older OS?
Can you test it on a non-PDF file to see if it's only pertaining to PDFs?
Have you deleted and re-added the container field that is loading the preview file?
Not patronising at all, yes, I know they are separate programs but I would have expected them to behave at least similarly with regards to the features that are present since a long time. I do not work with FM server, I just have my files on a NAS.
In any case, I have now tested the file after having copied it on the local drive and it works with no problems. I should have done the before asking, actually... In any case, many thanks, you have brought me on the correct spot.
