sounds strange, hard to follow )-:
what OS? Local file or hosted by FileMaker Server?
can you provide a copy of the file ?
I'd first try to clean the font caches with
and see if the problem persists after a restart.
(go to Cleaning icon, select Fonts tab, check'em all then hit execute then restart).
How could that make sense when some records have the correct re-sizing behavior?
This is starting to smell like another bug.
text for that record is retaining its RTF from when it's been pasted ?
Try the following (on a copy of the database, maybe...)
- select all records
- replace field contents, YourField, with calculated, TextFormatRemove(YourField)
because if you format a field to size 64 Arial in layout mode but you're viewing sample data, and the record you're on contains text pasted in from outside, in 12 point Snell Roundhand font, that's what you're going to see, not the 64 Arial.
With a TextFormatRemove()-based replace you're going to strip all pasted-in formatting info from the field.
Thanks for sticking with this issue.
The good news is that this is not a bug in FMP and, yes, was my copying and pasting in some formatted text. Why the font dialog didn't work, I'm not sure. I did try the Mac program called "Text Soap" to try to remove formatting, but that didn't work.
What actually worked for me (before I read your reply and learned about a new FMP function!) was to copy the text into TextEdit and then recopy it back into the FM field. In the back of my mind I was thinking it might be something like a copy and paste issue, but with the font control in FM I didn't understand how that wouldn't work and override whatever got pasted into a field.
It's all fixed.
I only had three records that seemed to be affected so I ran the TextFormatRemove function you pointed out (thanks again for that).
Thanks very much for your help and suggestions!
