That's the official filemaker documentation on it.
So if people in other threads were somehow able to make it work, then it wasn't within the specified capabilities of filemaker.
Then if you don't map the path, you can use it.
I can't confirm it since I didn't succeed to use additional database folder, also using local drive. Test and Save button on the admin console did nothing.
I realize this is an old thread, but I am want to accomplish this mythical task, and in one of the MANY discussions I have read, one of them said you could not create, edit, or delete the base directory if the file is hosted, but you CAN set the path with the file local, then upload it to server. I am curious if greater minds than mine can speculate on that solution since in the examples on the "Create Base Directory" dialog, there are examples of network paths shown. I have not been able to make it work, but it seems odd they would show it if it is impossible. Any comments ?
it is not odd that is impossible. The main reason why this is not a good idea is that RC files are treated the same way as live FM files. You simply do not want those on a slow/unreliable network connection.
I see your point, and it is well taken. What I meant seemed odd is that Filemaker would show an example of something that was impossible. Thank you for your insight!
