Are you using a calculation field?
I'm using a date field, not a calculation field.
Do you have multiple tables with fields named "date field name"? Is it possible you accidentally have the wrong "date field name" field on your layout?
What happens if you create a new calculation field called "date2", defined to return a date, whose calculation is set to: "date field name"? Can you successfully search against "date2" on your layout?

try entering the full year, as in 2015 instead of 15. Depending on your FM version and the data you have, a search for 1.1.1995 expressed as 1.1.95 might translate into a search for 1.1.2095 for Filemaker.
