Create a Value List
Make the values 0 (return) 1
On the layout select the imported field in layout mode and set to Checkboxes formatting
(although you probably want to use radio buttons, instead of checkbox)
You can change the labels (from 0 or 1) by selecting the field (still in layout mode) and under the number format (Inspector)
make and Boolean, then you can change the labels (if they are short values).
Thank you so much for your response. I have literally no experience with FM, so Bento is the closest to a real Data Base that I’ve ever been in charge of.
I’m trying to work out your answer right now. I’m assuming that I need to create a new solution with the value list you mention, and the other field types I use first. Then import my data vs. using data I’ve already imported, that appears as either a date, text, or a number.
So…I’ll let you know how I make out. I think I might take a quick look at some of the pre-made templates to see if any contain a checkbox or radio field?, first.
Please know how much I appreciate your help.
You can use an existing solution. I recommend that you look at the Starter Solutions, Go through the tutorial (Getting Started). And look at the FileMaker Training Series (Basics to start).
And as many of us started out: create a new dummy database just for testing purpose.
Thanks again for your help! I really appreciate your assistance.
You are welcome, Ray! all of us started at the beginning at some point.
I like the PDFs of all the documentation, as it's easy enough to search for words that might point me to the right functions/scripts/methods.
But I still frequently get in there and play around and do a 'what if' on many of the features. Very worth the diversion, especially with every new version change. Work on a new database and delete when done (or keep a while so you can go back with 'how did I do that?')
