# Yes, no, Maybe fields

I am creating a file to use during hiring for a business. I would like to create a form with two fields, one for each of the hiring managers in which I could select yes, no, maybe for each applicant and a third field would indicate whether the applicant should be interviewed (we both said yes, or one yes and one maybe), the applicant should not be interviewed (we both said no, or one no and one maybe) and we should discuss the application (two maybes, or one yes and one no). Thus far, I have built a form that allows for most of this, but it is numerical. I have to input 0,1 or 2 for no, maybe and yes. I will be importing the other hiring manager's decisions from excel and they will be in the format of no, maybe, yes. Does anyone know if there a way to convert no, yes, maybe to 0,1,2 while importing? Or could someone tell me how to assign values or build a calculation that will do what I want using text?

You can use field validation so that the number value appears or the text is used to "become the equivalent number".

Case ( Lower(self) = "no" ; 0

; Lower(self) = "maybe" ; 1

; Lower(self) = "yes"; 2

; Int(self) = self; self // keep as number

... more validation as needed ...

; "" // default is empty, if desired

)

It is used for field auto-enter calculation, not validation.

You can just add a calculation field:

Case ( MngrEval = "yes" ; 2 ; MngerEval = "maybe" ; 1 ; 0)  #assuming you don't have any empty fields

Then just use the calculation field to do your maths; hmm, what happens if they both say maybe.....

You are correct 19752. Auto-enter, not Validation under the Field Options.

Thank you Beverly,

I ended up creating new intermediate calculation fields that were strict one digit case fields so if field A(mgmt response) was yes, field B = 2, etc. I then just used the simple calculation that I had set up before using the calculation fields instead of the mgmt response fields.
