ODBC SQL Server - more frequent updates from SQL connection

We have a FileMaker server that has a ODBC Connection to a SQL server on another computer.

My database is server hosted and read's data from the SQL server and I use FileMaker to sort and display the data only.

My problem is that the data is not often very up to date, and I don't know how to fix this.

Is there a way that in a script I can perform a request that filemaker checks for records from the SQL connection?

I don't have any SQL experience just to be clear, I am simply trying to use FileMaker to get data from a door entry system we have and it all works apart from if i need to run a report in a fire alarm situation and need the records to be as up to date as possible,
