I have created a script which opens the desired database and displays matching record. I'd like to have a few fields in the second database match the first. Is there a way other than creating an import?
for 'copying' historical data, a relationship can be used to Lookup for fields that need related data. This can be scripted, auto-enter field definitions.
what are you trying to bring from one file into another? and when?
I have a master database with patient demographics such as name, date of birth, diagnosis etc and want to have those responses show automatically when I open another database that uses fields with the same names.
If you don't need "copy in time", then the relationship can be used to display related fields, not the "same" fields, but a "view" into the related record.
I have created relationships from one table to the other and inserted the desired field data into the new layout. It does not work consistently. Some records relate the appropriate data but others appear blank
is there a sort?
are the related fields just on the layout or in a portal?
is the portal sorted?
does the relationship allow creation (thus showing a blank row)?
is there a relationship that relies in any way on a calculated (unstored) field?
There may be many possible reasons for "not work consistently".
The related fields are just on a layout
I'm not sure how to use a portal
Is it advisable to allow creation?
These are not calculated fields, they are simply numbers or text
I'm still stumped. I've done this before with other databases and the data merged effortlessly
