Client Filemaker 14.0.2
Windows 7, 64 bit
Workaround is to delete the FNTCACHE.DAT file from C:\WIndows\System32 and reboot.
Why is this happening? What is the cause? Please see attached picture of the bizzare non-English font.
Thank you for your post.
This issue has been reported several times, and the last time was by you via:
Strange font on layouts only affects two machines
This has been documented in Knowledge Base Article #15419:
Testing and Development see this happening when Adobe Reader is open and has printed a PDF file, as this what creates the temporary font files. If FileMaker is launched during the time those fonts exist on disk, then they will appear at the bottom of the font list. This also occurs under other applications like Notepad.
Thanks for the quick reply. I wasn't aware that it had anything to do with Adobe Reader being open.
The notes from Development and Testing are a bit cryptic, so I can't discern if having Adobe Reader open is the cause. The notes show that if Adobe Reader was used to print a PDF, then the temporary fonts are created. It is not clear if the temporary fonts are cleared out when Adobe Reader is closed.
Still have victims of this issue. 3 in one week. Is there anything in the latest 14.06 release of FM for Windows that fixes this?
Although there is a new PDF engine in FileMaker Pro 14.0.6, this issue can still occur with Adobe Reader.
