I have a drop down list which can select shift type. According to the selected shift type I want to list all the shifts in a portal tool. Can anyone help me with this?
1. Set up a global field to be your shift selector.
2. Place the global field on the layout and tie it to the drop down list for shift type.
3. Create a relationship to a Table Occurrence (TO) of the table with the shift records - based on the global field equal to the shift type.
4. Create a portal based on that TO.
Sample file attached.
Portal setup > Filter Portal > Specify
Table::FieldInYourPortal = Table::ShiftSelectedField
Works well if the field in the drop down is global, but not needed. You will want to give the Portal an object name and attach an OnObjectModify script trigger to the dropdown to do a RefreshPortal in FM14 or simply RefreshWindow in earlier versions.
Thank for your reply. Could you please explain about Table::ShiftSelectedField ?
Table::ShiftSelectedField is the field name of the field the dropdown is assigned to. I would send you an example file but macwombat already provided one. In his example this is Shifts::z_globalshiftselector.
Thank you for your reply. I checked your attachment. That's what exactly I am looking for. But I am new to Filemaker. I created a global field but I am confused with creating table occurrence based on global field. Could you please explain it to me?
Thank you both of you. It's working now. Thanks again
